"Scribbled Ode to Fontana 200327" - neo-minimalist, abstract drawing
Title: Scribbled Ode to Fontana 200327
Artist: Troy Thomas
Medium: ink on paper
First, let me give you a brief description of Lucio Fontana and his art:
Lucio Fontana (19 February 1899 – 7 September 1968) was an Argentine-Italian artist. He was born in Rosario, Argentina, while his Italian parents were immigrants there. According to the Wikipedia page on him, he is mostly known for starting the Spatialism movement. I know him for his minimalist paintings with slashes in them.
For this ode, I used blue and royal blue gel pens to cover an 11"x14" sheet of mixed media paper, then cut a slot right in the center. On another sheet of paper, I used a black gel pen to scribble a strip in the center of the sheet. I then cut a slot in the middle of an 11"x14" backing board and put it in between the two sheets of paper in an attempt to create the darkness that would have been seen in the slash of one of Fontana's paintings.
