It is still in the morning hours of New Year's Day 2019 as I begin to write this blog post. While I am not one to make resolutions, the start of a new year is a good time to start something new or make some changes.
For the last few weeks, I have been wondering what I will do differently in 2019. I still have a full-time job, outside of my artistic career, that takes up a lot of time. I feel that it is hindering my art career, mainly because of the schedule. I work crazy hours, and normally work Wednesday through Sunday. On weekdays, I typically start work at 3:00am. Weekend hours are usually 7:30am to 3:30pm. Working weekends is quite a disadvantage for me because it prevents me from going to a lot of art events or selling my art at an art fair. I would really like to quit that job and work full-time on my art, but I am not willing to make that leap yet. Once I am quite confident that I can bring in a sustainable income from my art, I will probably take that chance.
As I was reading one of my blog posts from a year ago about some of my plans, I realized that I didn't follow through. So those plans will carry over into this year and hopefully I can do better with them.
Outside of the art, there was one goal that I was happy to have accomplished. I lost a lot of weight and feel great. For many people, losing weight or making healthier choices is a top resolution. My health goal was not set at the beginning of last year; it has been a goal for a long time. I was never morbidly obese, and I always felt okay physically. However, I didn't like the appearance of being overweight. With injuries received in the military, it is difficult for me to exercise as much as I would like. During this past summer, I learned about the ketogenic (Keto) diet. At first, I thought that it was not a diet that I could follow. I intended to just do a low-carb diet, but about a week or two into it, I realized that I was basically following the ketogenic path, and I have been doing the Keto lifestyle since then. I noticed the weight coming off fast - as did other people around me. Within a few months, I dropped about 60 pounds! I felt great, also. Since I kind of fell into that diet, I didn't record my starting weight nor did I document any of the progress along the way. I kind of wish I would have done so, as well as taken some pictures, so that I could have evidence of how well the diet was working for me. Unlike a lot of other diets, this one really requires a lifestyle change, and I was okay with that. I am not sure how long I will follow it, but I don't plan on stopping any time soon.
