"Black Hole 181229" is a digital reinterpretation of my original 2018 artwork created with white gel pen on black paper. Unlike reinterpretations in which color substantially transforms the source artwork, this version preserves the original black-and-white palette while altering the appearance and texture of its hand-drawn marks. A large irregular black form dominates the upper center of the composition, surrounded by increasingly dense networks of white marks. Moving outward from the dark central area, the marks gradually become more prominent until they form an intricate web-like field extending across the surrounding composition. The digital treatment changes the visual character of the original gel-pen linework without introducing a new color palette. Individual marks become more fragmented, granular, and sharply contrasted, creating a rougher surface while preserving the transition between the nearly uninterrupted black center and the densely worked areas surrounding it. As a digital reinterpretation, "Black Hole 181229" retains the stark monochromatic character and underlying organization of the original while emphasizing its contrasts in density and texture. The resulting image shifts between an expansive field of intricate detail and a central area where that visual activity appears to disappear into darkness.
