"Wrapped Candy" is a digital reinterpretation of my original 2018 gel pen artwork completed on December 22, 2018. This version preserves the recognizable wrapped-candy composition of the original while substantially transforming its color relationships, contrast, and hand-drawn surfaces. A large circular form remains at the center of the composition, surrounded by a deep green border and divided into contrasting fields of pink, red, and dark blue. Pale textured forms extend above and below the central structure, suggesting the gathered ends of a candy wrapper, while the vivid red surrounding field strengthens the silhouette of the overall form. The digital treatment transforms the original gel-pen marks into dense, granular textures with irregular dark details scattered throughout the colored fields. Colors that were relatively smooth and clearly separated in the original take on a rougher, more complex surface, while intensified contrast gives the boundaries between individual geometric forms greater visual emphasis. Although its palette and surface character have changed considerably, "Wrapped Candy" retains the underlying geometry and recognizable imagery of the original artwork. The reinterpretation demonstrates how changes in color, contrast, and texture can alter the visual character of a composition while preserving the familiar object embedded within its abstract structure.
